Having supported PTP’s enterprise network for over 10 years, Reva IT has evolved this network starting from a single site, single server with 10 PC’s to a 5 site, single domain, multi physical and virtual server environment with over 200 PC’s / Laptops and smartphone devices to name but a few.
With the retirement of “Microsoft Windows XP” and “Exchange 2003” on April 8th 2014 and “Microsoft Windows Server 2003” on July 14th 2015, Reva IT were engaged by PTP to provide an upgrade strategy to migrate their systems from 5 domain controllers running Windows Server 2003 and Exchange 2003 to “Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2” and “Microsoft Exchange 2010”. The solution was to provide future proofing to co-exist an on premise and cloud based hybrid environment.
This strategy included migrating circa 200 mailboxes throughout the enterprise over an 8 week period with both the new and legacy systems running concurrently throughout the migration process with minimum disruption to the business. Other services included migrating the Distributed File System (DFS), Integration of the Windows Server 2012 direct access service plus remote apps system running on an on premise terminal server.
Reva IT accepted the challenge and created a mock upgrade scenario by copying PTP’s legacy servers to virtual systems running at the Reva IT office in Seckington, Tamworth. Here we were able to anticipate any issues that could occur before running the live migration in a production environment.
The migration involved some assistance by Microsoft technical support due to issues with their own migration strategy which Reva were able to demonstrate the added value we offer as part of our Microsoft partner network status.
